Compositions
I am a composer for Selah Publishing Co. My writing is inspired by the music I have grown up singing and playing within the Anglican choral tradition, and I am always delighted to hear my music being performed by choirs. Please take a look at some of my available compositions, below!
Preces & Responses
These were commissioned for the 2022 Royal School of Church Music America Carolina Residency, directed by Robert Poovey. It was a delight to hear the premiere in the awe-inspiring environs of Duke Chapel.
Review
"The conventional incipits from the officiant are answered by rhythmically active, harmonically adventurous responses in this strong set written for the 2022 RSCM America Carolina Course directed by AAM member Robert Poovey. In several responses, Kaufman surprises the ear with unexpected tonal destinations, yet the cadences never feel contrived. Measures with asymmetric meter increase the element of spontaneity and unpredictability, and they may require additional rehearsal time and attention." --AAM Journal, July-August 2023
Hinsdale Evening Service
This setting of the evening canticles for SATB choir and organ was composed for Andrew Fredel and the Grace Choir, on the occasion of the sesquicentennial of Grace Episcopal Church in Hinsdale, IL. The movements are written in a similar style to the Preces & Responses and are meant to be both engaging and accessible for any choir looking to add a new setting to their Evensong rotation.
Surge, propera amica mea
This Easter introit was written for my parents on the occasion of their 45th anniversary. It sets the text “Arise, my love…” from the Song of Solomon, in Latin.
